How FIRC Group Asheville Started

How It All Started

Antonio O. Fraga (1943-2023) was a self-made man who embodied the American Dream.  As a young father, struggling to support his family, during the day he worked in the mail room for IBM and put himself through college at night. Without enough money for books, he had to depend on his notes and his drive to learn the material.  True to form, Antonio graduated and moved from the IBM mail room to a Branch Account Manager.   In 1972, seeing opportunities in real estate, he left the safety of IMB to create his own company - The FIRC Group.
The Success Beginning of FIRC Group Asheville

The Beginning of Success

In 1975, due to the oil crisis, Fraga lost his investments and started over from scratch. With an old friend, Fraga again started investing in real estate and the business soon flourished. He purchased his first shopping center (17,05,000 sq. ft.) in Homestead, Florida. FIRC Group has been a successful enterprise ever since, with numerous developments in Florida and North Carolina.

America’s Future

"Mixed-use developments are America's best option if we're going to declare our independence from foreign sources of energy. We need to live in places where we can walk to work, to shop, and to recreate. This means designing true urban villages and building up in existing city centers."
Tony Fraga (circa 1976)
